Too Bold?! Or Not Bold Enough...
Considering the past weekish or so, I've been rather busy, which is unusual for me during off times. As the previous post already mentioned, last week I spent Monday to Wednesday doing the 48 hours of gameage, and Thursday and Friday was spent helping at the store.
The weekend was quite eventful as well:
Saturday involved the nostalgic soccer game at The Woodlands. Ironically (or not), Anup, who organized the whole game, did not show up. I had to pick up Darbha at the Go Train station, and when we arrived there were 4 other people: Flood, Shez, Saj, and Lowry. So we proceeded to split the teams into Chindia vs The White Guys. Altogether a really fun game, most of the highlights involve Lowry blundering up plays in one fashion or another. On one rather amusing attempt to stop a breakaway Lowry managed to perform some sort half dive/half somersault flip on the ground. The defensive effort worked because our player was laughing so hard (along with everyone else on the field) that Lowry recovered in time to stop the lightly tapped ball. I think I ran a bit too hard in the soccer game though, my thighs are still kind of sore today, 4 days after the game. After a family dinner I chilled with Shez and Rama for awhile, had some good convo =P
Apparently by Saturday DB were back, so on Sunday they had a gathering. Ricky also had planned to host a D20 game that day. Fortunately, we were able to play both games and the D20 game, and then more games after the D20 game, he he. Basically from 2-5pm was Smashy Smashy (Old) w/ Darbha, who had to leave by 5. Oh, and we also played some poker before Darbha left (no money), where Rama used the phrase "gotta be bold" quite often (more on boldness and poker later). After driving Rama to Square One and setting up a new character we had Ricky's D20 game. Quite a bit of RP-ing, which went pretty well, although I thought it may have dragged out a bit long. But the battle was pretty fun, and Bao's character proved that bullets are stronger than fists =P After the D20 session was over Alan and Ricky left, and DB, Jia, and I played some Tales of Symphonia, a pretty good game, considering of getting it...maybe (depends if I get to play more of it before I leave). Left DB's at like 3:30am, he he.
Sunday after church went back to DB's for more Tales, since Jia slept over at their place. So we played that for about 3, 4 hours. David dropped by around the 2nd hour of Symphonia, so after we were finished (well, more like when Bao was finished) with Symphonia we played more no money poker. I think it was this session that Jia started using "how bold of me", "too bold", and "not bold enough", which was used quite a lot in the ensuing $1 buy-in poker game after dinner at DB's old house (after the no-money poker game we played a few rounds of Smash and then went to eat). The $1 buy-in poker game lasted quite awhile, I think over 3 hours. And it was very entertaining, there were some very interesting and crazy hands played, with Jia often going "too bold", usually losing money against Duy. I had several good hands in the opening hour or so, so I was up by well over a dollar at my peak (I was playing rather conservatively, cowering whenever I could). Then the "boldness" got to me, and since I had lots of profit (plus I'd at most lose $1), played more interesting "all-in" hands (such as pocket 3's, 4 and 8's, 2 and 10's, 9 and J's, [usually of different suits] etc). On one big hand where I thought my straight was unbeatable I failed to notice that there were 4 hearts in the community, so I lost quite a few dimes to David. Finished the game with around 15 cents profit, so I just took my dollar back. In fact, we all ended up taking our buy-in back, so it was a buy-in game that ended up being for no-money. So it was like, the excitement of a buy-in game that costs the same as a no-money game, quite worth it.
Today ran some errands and preparing for the move to Ottawa, plus had dinner over in Richmond Hill with Dimensions people. More stuff to do tomorrow, plus I have to probably start planning and packing for Ottawa.
Oh yeah, I'm officially moving to Ottawa on Sept 5th, so if you want to do stuff it'll have to be before then.

Post-finals Update
Last entry was close to 2 weeks ago, and much has happened since then. However, I don't think I'll pull a Bao-like 12 page essay in Word. As usual, I'll probably just write about some highlights and in the process end up skipping a bunch of stuff that I had intended to blog about. Meh.
So after the Stats final two Mondays ago I proceeded to go back to 'sauga for a couple of days, since my last final wasn't until Friday night and I figured there wasn't that much to study for. Darbha was conveniently back in Canada (staying in Hamilton), so I called him up to meet up at DB's for some gameage. However, Darbha was working at Mac, so he couldn't get into 'sauga until like, 6 or so. So I was at DB's smashing until I was supposed to meet with Darbha at Erin Mills. Unfortunately, we managed to miss each other entirely at Erin Mills, so Darbha went to Duy's himself. Thus I spent around 80 minutes loitering about Erin Mills, I blame Darbha. Back at DB's w/ Darbha, played games, ate pizza, and poker. Poker was interesting, I went all-in against Jia once and Darbha once, and lost both times. I wasn't being overzealous because we weren't playing for money; instead I believe it was a result of being inexperienced playing poker and not recognizing that my hands weren't that invincible. Had to leave relatively early at 10pm 'cause my Mom was expecting me home for dinner =P
Side note: I am currently helping my 7 year old cousin write a story, so grammar and coherence of my paragraphs will most likely decline like a graph of y = e^-1 (throw in a little math humour there, heh heh heh...)
Wednesday I didn't do much, Internet was shot down at home (more on this a bit later), so I spent the day watching movies and picked up on reading Hitch Hiker's Guide again. I read about 70 pages or so since then, heh. Went back to 'Loo Thursday to study for the Friday final. Wrote final on Friday, and went out w/ CCF people afterwards for Pho and played a game of Risk afterwards. Risk is a pretty fun game, very tactical and very Falson-able (that's pronounced fal-son). I think it'll be a good game to play w/ you guys (whoever that reads this blog). We can like, alternate between video games and board games, heh.
Mental capacity is limited, chronological memory out of whack, so I think I'll just blog the rest in highlight form.

As previously mentioned, Internet was not working when I went home. This was the ADSL connection my brother set up when he was here, and since we routered that connection, we kept it alive when he left so I can use it when I'm home.
Basically what happened is:
- called Bell since DSL light on modem was not on, after about 40 minutes w/ 1st and 2nd level help people, they said that due to some inexplicable reason the ADSL was changed to our other home line, problem should be fixed in 24 hours
- DSL light goes back on, but can't connect, called again, said they'll run a test that'll take 24-48 hours
- a day later got a call from the Bell people, ran some connectivity tests (to no avail), said there might be something wrong w/ the physical lines, had to wait until yesterday for the technician to come and check
- technician came yesterday, said everything was fine w/ the lines physically, so probably a software problem
- called Bell again, and again ran a lot of tests, doing different things, still can't connect, the person said that something must be wrong w/ my computer, virused up or something. However, the problem was that I can't connect through my brother's comp, my laptop, or the router.
- thus I tried using the router on my Mom's DSL connection, bingo, no problem, so Bell can suck it 'cause we're cancelling the ADSL connection (probably was gonna do it anyway since I'll be away from home for at least another 8 months)
48 Hours
Also as mentioned Darbha was back, and since I basically had nothing to do at home this week, naturally we got together for some gameage. Jia wanted out of the house since Saturday, but I was busy on the weekend finishing moving stuff. So Monday had Jia, Ray, and Lowry over to play games, Jia and Lowry stayed for the night. Ray came back on Tuesday, and Jon and Darbha joined later on in the day. Went out to see AvP Tuesday night, the movie was, as Darbha described it, "grade-A trash", so it was good =P Back to my place for more gameage after AvP. Wednesday morning Darbha and Ray left, and I had to help out at the store for the afternoon. No surprise that Jia, Lowry and Jon were still at my place when I was back at around 4pm. So more games until 9 or so, and we went out for food (also to get them finally out of my house, heh). Ordered KFC near Meadowvale, wanted to eat there but they closed the lights on us, so ate at Jia's place. Lowry was to be picked up at Jia's, so I dropped Jon home on my way back. Altogether this gathering actually spanned 48 hours, from roughly Monday afternoon to Wednesday night, he he. Games played: Original Smash, Smash Melee, Perfect Dark, and Street Fighter EX 3. Movies watched: AvP, Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2. Note that the movies (besides AvP) were watched basically when people were falling asleep, so chances are most of us only watched parts of the movies here and there. Fun fun, definitely will try to do this again when I'm back from Ottawa.
Olympics
With the recent lack of Internet the Olympics was a natural way to blow my time outside of the "48 hours" period. Been watching it whenever I have free time at home, so have kept up with the events lately. China was doing really well, sitting on top of the medal board until today, when the US finally surpassed China in Gold Medals. That's alright though, 'cause once the Track events kicked in China would definitely be surpassed by the US anyway. It's kind of sad to see Canada accomplishing so little, only picking up a silver and a bronze so far. Even Hong Kong is guaranteed a gold or silver medal, so Canada should really pick up the slack soon.
Hm, come to think of it, that's pretty much what I've done this week: moved stuff, played games, watched Olympics and dealt with Bell. Well, that wasn't too bad.
There seems to be a soccer event this weekend, so I'll attend that, as well as DB coming back next week, so probably more gameage next week; more fun fun.

4 Down 1 To Go...
Stats 231 is done and done, so is Act Sci 371, Econ 201, and Math 237 (Calc 3).
And overall I think I was pleased with how I wrote my finals, so I think this term will be alright for me. Now to talk about stuff that happened between studying:
Thursday night after Act Sci 371 final (7-10pm) went out to Morty's for wings with CCF people. I was the first to arrive, and called and asked how many people we were expecting. I was told the number was 15, so the waitress rounded down to 12. We ended up with over 20 people, probably around 22 or 23 =P
So between the waiting for the table (as Morty's always gets packed late on wing night), waiting for the wings and finishing the wings, I got home around 1 am, and my Econ final was in 8 hours (and I still kinda needed to review). So I reviewed before going to bed at like 2:30 and before the final, and all in all it went alright, so that's good.
Friday I was told that the last D20 of Bao's campaign, so I didn't really want to miss out on that. Thus instead of taking it easy on Friday I managed to study for the Stats course.
Saturday was the D20 game, I woke up and did a bit more studying, and then went to pick up Jia and Alan and arrived at DB's around noon. Since the other players didn't arrive until later we Smashed for about 2 1/2 hours, fun fun. The campaign was pretty fun, 3 major battles. Bao put quite a bit of effort into designing the final dungeon but we didn't really explore too much of it, so in a way it was unfortunate (I'd like to have fought that weird Batman thing). The D20 game was split into 2 sessions before and after dinner (we went to McDonald's to eat, their salad isn't too bad...). Afterwards was some pool and a bit more Smashy Smashy, then it was time to leave.
I wanted to go back to 'Loo Saturday night, so I'd have all of Sunday to study. But instead I was ninja'd by traffic jam, and I was like "Screw this, I'll go sleep at 'sauga home". So I spent Sunday morning and early afternoon going to church and having lunch with my Mom and Stepdad. Back to 'Loo to study here and there.
Stat 231 final was not too bad, but it did have a very interesting case study: "Video games improves visual skill". I read the title and was like, "Whoa, it does? Score!" Yet another excuse to play games, yay! So, next time your parents tells you to eat carrots because it's good for your eyesight, offer the alternative to play games instead!
Since my last final isn't until Friday night 7-10 and there really isn't too much to study for, I decided to go back to 'sauga for Tues and Wed, and possibly Thurs. Darbha is back, so I'm gonna try to find him to do stuff w/ the usual gaming crew. It's a bit late to inform Jon and possibly Lowry though, so that's unfortunate. So I'll most likely be in 'sauga for the next two days, call if you want to do stuff! I'll be "studying" at home or something like that...

Anticipation...
Hm, I dunno why, but I find Finals time to be the most relaxing part of a university term. Even more so if you don't have co-op/already found a job.
It's probably has something to do with not having any blocks of time in (most) of your days preoccupied with lectures or tutorials or labs or whatnot. All you do is balance out studying, eating, and R&R. And then you go and write your final, whether good or bad. And after the final is done, it's done and done, and nothing you can really do can change that (unless you're good at scamming the university). So then it's off to preparing for and writing the next final, and so forth until you're done.
Also, I think this has to do with the fact that I've been lucky in my finals schedule so far, I haven't had any "3 finals in 2/3 days" yet. So I get at least a day's worth of time between finals to rest up a bit and then hit the books again.
Also, I find it that once I've studied the material for however long and think that I understand the stuff, I tend to want to get the final done and over with. So in a way, I'm kinda looking forward to my final tonight at 7 so that I can be done and done with another course. *Shrug, maybe I'm strange that way.

1 Down 4 To Go...
Now that Calc 3 is done and done with, maybe I don't have to ever use Calc again! Muhahahaha...(unlikely, but one can dream)
Finals are pretty spread out, so I have some time to relax a bit before hitting the books again (currently watching Smallville on TV). That's the plan for the next 10 days or so: study, take a break, eat here and there, study some more, and write my finals. Yup. (If all else fails I'll initiate plan Beta 5)
On a more interesting note, Gamefaqs Summer Character Contest (3rd installment) is here again. First matches proves no upset, and there probably won't be any close matches until it hits at least the 2nd division. I made my bracket way back in early July and forgot about the deadline so didn't really change my entry afterwards (which, could be bad, due to poor thinking when first looking at the matchups).
Peasant's Quest was released on homestarrunner.com, so I suggest you all check it out sometime. I got kinda stuck and just looked at an FAQ to finish the game yesterday 'cause I didn't want to blow anymore time from studying, heh. It's nostalgic true to Sierra fashion, so I got a good kick out of playing it. Go on, check it out, see for yourself =P

Finals are pretty spread out, so I have some time to relax a bit before hitting the books again (currently watching Smallville on TV). That's the plan for the next 10 days or so: study, take a break, eat here and there, study some more, and write my finals. Yup. (If all else fails I'll initiate plan Beta 5)
