Back to School Update
Okay, so this is post serves as a double-whammy of sorts, the monthly update and the usual update I make in the first week of school, 'cause I tend to have time on my hands.
Actually, most of the past month revolved mainly around one thing: games. (Wow, like that was a surprise, eh?)
As I'm sure all who read this blog would know, we had a close encounter of a darth kind with Rama. Basically it was a going away gaming bash thing, some good ol' Smashing and so forth before Darbha made off for France. Overall the day was fun, same old same old with the rotating of controllers and such for Smashy, Jia restarting the game on numerous occasions, Lowry complaining about wanting to play Halo 2 (which we eventually did), and we had a Mack vs Loo part 2 in Old Smash, which went down to the wire, but alas, Mack prevailed 3-2.
Then for the next two weeks it was basically doing random stuff like helping my Dad move back to his apartment, going into Waterloo for books, getting my hair cut, etc and playing Kingdom Hearts.
Now, Kingdom Hearts, at the core, is pretty much an RPG with Dynasty Warriors type battle system. If you play on the Normal difficulty setting, most battles, save for a few boss fights, will more or less play like a hack and slash game. Hit enemies with basic ground or air combos, repeat. The puzzles are not too hard, and the plot progresses fairly linearly. A good amount of optional sidequests / things to gather along the way. But overall, the game isn't very challenging (on Normal settings at least). However, I do enjoy all the Disney and Square character cameos. Nostalgia does have it's way at times, and it makes the game and plot events more exciting. There's just something satisfying seeing Beast rip through 4 enemies at once with one pounce.
So, I don't think Kingdom Hearts is a game for those who are looking for a challenge in either the battle system or puzzles. To play and progress through the game it doesn't take too much mental effort. However, I believe that it is an excellent game to play through leisurely, something that you can pick up and have fun for short or long intervals.
Yeah, so now I'm back in Waterloo, taking courses and such, the usual routine. Hopefully this term I can make more time for fellowship and extra cirricular stuff, but that's probably something I say every term =p
